KIWANIS OF LITTLE HAVANA SUMMER CAMP

A brief history:  In the summer of 1991, the Kiwanis of Little Havana with cooperation from the City of Miami Parks and Recreation, organized a summer baseball league at Shenandoah Park for the underserved children of the community; over 100 kids attended the 8-week program.

It became evident that not every child liked baseball or had the skills for the sport.  Henceforth, the program expanded to include more comprehensive activities including swimming, tennis, soccer, volleyball, indoor games and weekly field trips.

At the present time, approximately 200 children ages 7 - 13 enroll in the Kiwanis of Little Havana Summer Camp yearly and the Kiwanis provide supervised activities, uniforms, daily lunch, field trips to attractions and a safe summer of fun where parents can drop off their children while at work.

This program has been established for low income families.  The camp is FREE and children are selected based on income levels.  Throughout the years, the Summer Camp has served over 4,000 children.
